MAAC® for Animal Nutrition

A great trace mineral plan is the cornerstone of any nutritional program. Without proper levels of trace minerals, the energy and protein provided in rations will not be properly metabolized due to insufficient mineral availability for the building of digestive enzymes to break these products down for absorption into the system. Proper levels of trace minerals can significantly impact hormone production, immune function, digestion of carbohydrates, skeletal integrity and skin health.

So what can you do to assure that your animals receive proper levels of trace mineral nutrition to perform their best...?

Look for feeds that include chelated minerals. Make sure that your horse looks and performs as it should. If its hair coat is dull or its hooves are cracked, there is a good chance that you should provide more mineral supplementation. There are several ways to accomplish this. Top dress mineral programs can be a great help if they are the right minerals. Albion Equine Multi Pack and several other equine top dress products can be added to your horses feed every day. The results will impress in terms of how your horse looks and performs. Chelated trace minerals are used to improve trace mineral levels in animals. Chelated minerals are amino acids attached to trace minerals. Chelates are mostly absorbed in the jujenal area of the small intestine just like regular amino acids. Chelating a mineral also protects it from antagonistic effects of other minerals allowing them to pass to the site of absorption in the small intestine.

Several feed companies use Albion Chelated trace minerals as part of their mineral formulations. To determine if your feed includes Albion Chelates review the feed tag, if it lists: Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate or Magnesium Amino Acid Chelate you are getting genuine Albion product in your mineral.

Only Albion is privileged by the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) to be able to use this designation on labeling. If your tag lists any of the metals as Complexes or Proteinates you are receiving something less than a true chelate. Only when the precise chemical requirements for chelation are met, can the physiological consequences of improved bioavailability be expected.
