A.In order to form an amino acid chelate, the amino acids must first be dissolved in water. Mixing a mineral in a slurry or paste that contains amino acids or dry-blending the amino acids and mineral does not result in chelation.Once the amino acid is in solution, the hydrogen atom can be removed from the amine part of the amino acid. The metal, which was previously bonded to the carboxyl portion of the amino acid, is now attached to the amine portion of the amino acid to form the requisite heterocyclic ring. More than one amino acid can be chelated to the same minera. By definition, an amino acid chelate molecule must contain 1 metal atom and 1, 2, or 3 amino acids chelated to the same metal.
